Ruf Records Signs Anthony Gomes

New Live CD Due February 19, 2008

ATLANTA, GA – Ruf Records announces the signing of guitarist/singer Anthony Gomes and a February 19, 2008 release of his label debut CD, Live.

Live was recorded February 27 of this year at The Triple Door in Seattle, Washington, and features four new songs, five songs off his previous album, Music Is The Medicine, and a sizzling cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Heartbreaker.” The album was recorded live to 2-track without any musical overdubs.

“History can happen when you least expect it,” says Anthony Gomes about the new CD.  “We recorded Live on a cold Tuesday winter night in Seattle.  I vividly remember the show because I had been fighting a cold and wondered how the night would turn out.  The crowd was enthusiastic, the room was dynamic and the band was electric.  We couldn’t help but play our best.  This recording beautifully captures the energy exchange between the audience and an artist.  We were flying high, on the wings of a song.  Lights, countdown, action….”

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Anthony Gomes has been based in Nashville for the last several years. An earlier incarnation of his band at one time included a then-unknown back-up singer named Gretchen Wilson.

Gomes’ last studio CD, Music Is The Medicine,” was produced by Jim Gaines (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana) and hit the Billboard magazine Top 200 Indie Chart, also spending 16 weeks on that magazine’s Top 15 Blues Chart, peaking at #4.

Gomes tours constantly, averaging 200-250 dates a year and has also toured in the UK, France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Norway, Finland, the Virgin Islands, Mexico and Canada.

Anthony Gomes has received universal raves for his previous albums and live shows. “Blistering guitar licks and vocals that slice like a hooch-soaked machete,” said the Toronto Star, while the Salt Lake City Weekly dubbed him “a serious mojo mofo.” “He could play guitar like there was no tomorrow,” summed up a Creem reviewer. “When he started to sing, I was floored.” As handsome as he is talented, Anthony was recently featured in Complete Woman magazine as “one of music’s most-eligible bachelors.”

Anthony Gomes is managed by Paul Snyder (paul@anthonygomes.com) and is booked by Rick Booth at Intrepid Artists International (rick@intrepidartists.com). Tour plans will include an extensive string of dates in support of the new album’s release.
