STONY PLAIN SIGNS TWO MAJOR CANADIAN

ARTISTS FOR INTERNATIONAL RELEASE

 

OTTAWA’S AWARD-WINNING BAND MONKEYJUNK AND VANCOUVER-BASED PIANIST KENNY “BLUES BOSS” WAYNE TO RELEASE NEW CDs IN JUNE

 

Stony Plain Records, the Edmonton, Alberta-based roots music label, has signed international recording agreements with two Canadian artists, MonkeyJunk and Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne.

           

Both have completed new CDs; they will be released on Stony Plain in Canada, the U.S. and most international markets. In Europe and the UK the CDs will be released on the French-based label, Dixie Frog.

 

MonkeyJunk, the award-winning Ottawa band, draws heavily on the legends of the blues and translates those influences into a contemporary blend of what the group defines as “swamp R&B, soul boogie and bedroom funk.”

 

The new CD, To Behold, was recorded in Ottawa-area studios and co-produced by Ken Friesen (Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo) and Steve Marriner, and will be released internationally on June 21.

 

Fronted by vocalist and harmonica player Marriner, the trio is completed by guitarist Tony D and drummer Matt Sobb. To Behold is the band’s second album — the first was the independently released Tiger in Your Tank, which was named Best New Artist Debut...
