Founded in 1969 and with over 450 releases, 40 JUNO Awards and 37 gold and platinum records to its credit, True North is a unique Canadian recording company dedicated to fostering creativity among its artists. True North boasts a diverse catalogue of recordings by such outstanding Canadian artists as Bruce Cockburn, the Golden Dogs, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, Stephen Fearing, Colin Linden, Tom Wilson, 54-40, Joel Kroeker, Lynn Miles, Hunter Valentine, Rheostatics, Howie Beck, Murray McLauchlan, Lighthouse, Rough Trade, Randy Bachman, NOJO and Michael Occhipinti. Entertainment in Holland, Belgium and Luxemburg; Alive AG in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland; Rootsy Music in Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway; and Essential Music in the UK. In Canada, True North distributes the following labels: Cooking Vinyl, Fuel 2000, SCI Fidelity and Signature Sounds. The label was founded over 35 years ago by Bernie Finkelstein; one of the leading figures in the Canadian music industry. On December 17, 2007, True North was acquired by an investment group led by Linus Entertainment, another growing Canadian independent label founded by Geoff Kulawick, former head of A&R for Virgin Canada and creative director for Warner/Chappell Music Canada, along with private investors Harvey Glatt and Mike Pilon. Bernie Finkelstein remains involved with True North as Chairman and long term consultant, while he continues to manage True North artists Bruce Cockburn and the Golden Dogs, and the publishing interest in the songs of Bruce Cockburn.
